This is a warm knit hat pattern for any youngster. It is not a beginner pattern as you will be working with three needles.
Sock Yarn and Supplies at JoAnns
CHADWICK'S RED HEART SOCK AND SWEATER
YARN, 3 Ply, Shrinkand-Stretch Resist Finish, Art. E.255: 1 skein (1
oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skein) each of No. 229 Lt.
Yellow and No. 686 Paddy Green. (Or any color of your choice)
Milwards "Phantom" Aluminum Double-pointed Sock Needles, or Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Double-pointed Sock Needles, 1 set No. 3 (3 mm. Size).
GAUGE: 7 1/2 sts make 1 inch; 9 rnds make 1 inch.
Starting at cuff with Paddy Green, cast on 156 sts. Divide sts among 3 needles and join, being careful not to twist sts.
Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 3 1/2 inches. Drop Paddy Green, attach Lt. Yellow.
Note: When changing from one color to another, always twist the unused color around the other to prevent making holes. When carrying unused color across, be careful not to pull yarn up too tightly.
Work in stockinette st (k each rnd) as follows:
1st to 4th rnds incl:
With Lt. Yellow, k around. 5th, 6th and 7th rnds: * K 9 Paddy Green, k 4 Lt. Yellow. Repeat from * around.
8th, 9th and 10th rnds: * K 3 Paddy Green, k 3 Lt. Yellow, k 3 Paddy Green, k 4 Lt. Yellow. Repeat from * around.
11th, 12th and 13th rnds: Repeat 5th, 6th and 7th rnds. Repeat first to 10th rnds incl.
Next rnd (1st dec rnd): * K 9 Paddy Green; with Lt. Yellow k 1, k 2 tog, k 1. Repeat from * around. Following rnd: * K 9 Paddy Green, k 3 Lt. Yellow. Repeat from * around.
2nd dec rnd: * K 9 Paddy Green; with Lt. Yellow, k 1, k 2 tog. Repeat from * around. Break off Paddy Green.
With Lt. Yellow only work as follows:
Next rnd: K around.
Following rnd: K around, decreasing 12 sts evenly around (keeping decreases over previous decreases). Repeat the last 2 rnds alternately until 12 sts remain.
Break off, leaving a 6-inch length of yarn. Thread this yarn through a needle and draw through remaining sts. Pull up tightly and fasten off securely on wrong side.
With Paddy Green make Pompon as for Ribbed Cap, C-130, and sew to top of Cap.
