Motifs or granny squares are crocheted and joined to make this infant size, 6 to 9 months, sweater. The model was made from two ounces white and three ounces blue American Thread Company "Dawn" baby Yarn. "Dawn" Orlon or Nylon Pompadour may be used if desired.
Use a plastic crochet hook size F or any size hook which will result in motif gauge given. You also need one yard of 3/8 -inch ribbon and six small buttons.

Gauge: Each motif is 1½ inches square.
First Half of Sweater: Work 67 motifs and 4 half motifs.
Motif: With white ch 4, 2 dc in 4th st from hook. * ch 1. 3 dc in same sp, repeat from * twice, ch 1, join in third st of ch first made, cut yarn.
Rnd 2: Join blue in any ch 1 sp, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in same sp, * 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, repeat from * twice, join in third st of ch, cut yarn.
Half Motif: With white ch 5, 3 dc in first st of ch, ch 1, 3 dc, ch 1, dc in same sp, cut yarn, do not turn.
Row 2: Join blue in first lp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp, 3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, cut yarn.
Finishing: Sew motifs together ac-cording to chart. Then sew A to B and C to D along dotted lines. Sew 1 motif in position to free edges of motifs for underarm gusset. Work another section in same manner reversing the shaping. Sew edge of 6 motifs of each section together for center back
Finishing-Edge: With right side of work toward you, work a row of sc around entire sweater working button-loop in each lower corner of each front, 1 at joining above and 1 at corner of next motif as illustrated (to make button-loop: ch 2, sk the length of a dc, sc in next st, continue in sc to next button-loop).
Make a shell edge by making a ch 3, dc in base of ch 3, sl st in next st, * ch 3, dc in base of ch 3, sk 1 st, sl st in next st (shell made), repeat from around, join, cut yarn. Sew buttons in position sewing 3 to side seam on right side and 3 to wrong side of other side seam.
Sleeve Edge: With right side of sleeve toward you, join blue at underarm seam, sc in each dc and in each joining, join, do not turn this or following rows.
Row 2: Ch 4, sk next st, dc in next st, * ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in next st, repeat from * around (beading), do not turn
Row 3: Sc in each st around, join.
Row 4: (Row of shells) Ch 3, dc in base of ch 3, sl st in next st, ch 3, dc in base of ch 3, sk 1 st, sl st in next st (shell made), repeat from around, join, cut yarn. Lace ribbon through beading.
