Granny Squares Crochet Hat Instructions

This one is a favorite and best of all is one of many easy free crochet hat patterns here. This is for a fast cap to make is one using 5 granny squares. Just take your favorite 5-inch or 6-inch pattern for a granny square and crochet 5 squares.

Then stitch the 5 squares together 1 in the center (top) and 4 around the edges. Then place a simple border of several rows of single crochet around the outside of the attached squares. This is such a fast project to make up that you can do it easily in a day. It is a great weekend project if you need a quick gift.

Berets are another great style of caps to make. They work up better using the softer yarns. Bernat Satin is one such soft yarn. Since the berets are supposed to lay kind of free form on the head it helps to have a yarn that gives a bit.
