This cute teddy bear pattern is perfect for the new baby and would be just as adorable in blue as it is in pink. I think this would be ideal to add to a baby blanket for a baby shower gift. Babies don’t need hard items or toys with parts, this little teddy will be soft and cuddly.
Also think about the charities that could use these teddy bears this pattern. The neonatal units could put one in each bassinet during the holidays.
Materials Needed
Size 3 mm or American size #9 needles
Sports Yarn 20 g
Odd amount of ribbon
Polyester filling
Back and Front Alike
First Half Leg
Using 3 mm needles cast on 8 sts and work 13 rows in garter st (every row knit).
Break yarn and slip sts onto a safety pin.
Second Half Leg
Using 3 mm needles cast on 8 sts and work 13 rows in garter st.
Next row: Knit across sts on needle, then knit the 8 sts on safety pin. 16 sts.
Continuing in garter st throughout work 7 rows straight.
Cast on 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 28 sts. Work 6 rows straight. Cast off 8 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 12 sts remain.
Head
Work 3 rows straight. Inc 1 st at each end of next and following alt row, then every following 4th row until there are 20 sts.
Work 2 rows straight. Dec 1 st at each end of next 2 rows.
Cast off remaining 16 sts.
Foot Pads (Make 2)
Using 3 mm needles cast on 2 sts and knit 1 row. Continuing in garter st inc 1 st at each end of next 2 rows. 6 sts.
Work 4 rows straight. Dec 1 st at each end of next 2 rows.
Cast off remaining 2 sts.
To Finish
Join back and front together leaving feet open. Tie a length of yarn tightly round each corner at top of head for ears. Stuff firmly. Insert foot pads. Embroider eyes, nose and mouth as illustrated. Tie ribbon round neck and sew firmly in place.
