Sizes: Small, Medium and Large


CHADWICK'S RED HEART SOCK AND SWEATER YARN, 3 Ply, Shrinkand-Stretch Resist Finish, Art. E.255: 3 skeins (1 oz. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) each of No. 1 White and No. 230 Yellow.

Clark's O.N.T. Plastic. Crochet Hook No. 7.

GAUGE: Sole-4 sts make 1 inch; 4 sc rows make 1 inch. Upper-5 sc make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

Directions are written for Small Size. Changes for Medium and Large Sizes are in parentheses

SOLE (Make 3) . . . Starting at center with 2 strands each of White and Yellow, chain loosely 22 (26, 30).

1st rnd: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 11 (13, 15) ch, dc in next 8 (10, 12) ch, 7 dc in last ch (toe); working along opposite side of starting chain make dc in next 8 (10, 12) ch, sc in next 11 (13, 15) ch, 2 sc in same place as first 3 sc.

2nd, 3rd and 4th rnds: Sc in each st around, increasing 3 sc evenly across back and 5 sc evenly across toe-to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in Sc.

5th rnd:Sl st in each st around. Join and break off.

Cut a piece of cardboard slightly smaller than sole. Sew 3 pieces together, inserting cardboard.

UPPER . . . Starting at toe with a single strand each of White and Yellow, chain 17 (19, 21).

1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd to 5th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

6th row:Sc in each sc across, increasing 1 sc at beginning and end of row. Ch 1, turn.

7th to 11th rows incl: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

12th to 17th rows incl: Repeat 6th to 11th rows incl. Break off at end of 17th row.

POMPON ... Cut 2 cardboard circles each 3 inches in diameter. Then cut a circle 1 inch in diameter at center of each 3-inch circle. Using 2 strands each of White and Yellow, complete as for Pompon on Ribbed Cap, C-130, page 14.

Make 7 more Pompons the same way.

Sew 2 rows of 4 Pompons across Upper. Sew Upper in place.

Make another Slipper the same way.
