How to crochet a flower

Use this Sunflower to learn how to crochet a flower.

EASY
Size: About 5 inches in diameter
Materials: Bulky (chunky) weight yarn, 5 yds yellow-orange, Medium (worsted) weight yarn, 2 yds dark brown, Size G/6/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Gauge: Rnd 1 = 21/2 inches in diameter

Instructions
With dark brown, ch 2.


Rnd 1: 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook; join in front Ip of first sc.


Rnd 2: *Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in same Ip—beg petal made; in front Ip of each rem sc work (sl st, ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook, sl st)—petal made. (7 petals) Fasten off.


Rnd 3: Join yellow between any 2 petals; working behind petals, *ch 2, sl st between next 2 petals; rep from *5 times more; ch 2; join in joining sl st.


Rnd 4: SI st in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, 3 sc in same sp and in each rem ch-2 sp; join in front Ip of first sc. (21 sc)


Rnd 5: *Ch 6, sI st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 2 chs, sl st in same Ip as joining—beg small petal made; in front Ip of each rem sc work (sl st, ch 6, sI st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 2 chs, sl st)—small petal made; join in back Ip of first sc of rnd 3. (21 small petals)


Rnd 6: *Ch 9, sI st in 2nd and 3rd chs from hook, sc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 2 chs, dc in next 2 chs, sl st in same Ip as joining—beg large petal made; in back Ip of each rem sc of rnd 3 work (sl st, ch 9, sl st in 2nd and 3rd chs from hook, sc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 2 chs, dc in next 2 chs, sl st)—large petal made; join in joining sl st.


Fasten off and weave in all ends.
