The Crocheted Baby Clothes Soaker model was made from Coats & Clark’s Red Heart Baby wool and a plastic crochet hook number 3.
Two 2-ounce skeins in any desired color are sufficient for one soaker. You will also need 1 ¼ yards of ¼ inch ribbon in matching color and 10 small buttons.

Front—Starting at top, ch 57 to measure ll inches
Row 1; Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Insert hook in second ch from hook and draw a lp through, insert hook in next ch and draw a lp through, insert hook in first sc and draw a lp through, insert hook in next sc and draw a lp through (5 lps on hook), yarn over and draw through all lps on hook. ch 1 to fasten (a star st made), * insert hook in fastening ch and draw a 1p through, insert hook through last 1p of previous star st and draw lpthrough, insert hook in same place where last lp of last star st was made and draw lp through, insert hook in next sc and draw lp through, yarn over and draw through all lps on hook, ch 1 to fasten (another star st made), repeat from * across (56 star sts), Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in fastening ch of each star
st across, sc in top of turning ch (56 sc), ch 3, turn.
Rows 2 and 3 constitute the pattern. Work in pattern until piece measures 6 inches, ending with the second row of pattern.
Next row: Draw up .1 lp in first 3 fastening chs, yarn over and draw through all lps on hook (2 sc dec at beginning of row), sc in each remaining fastening ch across to within last 2 fastening chs, draw up a lp in each of last 2 fastening chs and in top of turning ch, yarn over and draw through all lps (2 sc dec at end of row). Ch 3, turn.
Following row: Repeat row 2 of pattern.
Repeat last 2 rows until there are 20 sc on row. Fasten off.
Back Work exactly as for front. Sew back and front pieces neatly together at crotch. Now work across one complete side edge as follows
Row 1: With wrong side of work facing,
join yarn at top edge, sc closely across side and leg opening. Ch 1,
turn. With pins mark the position of 5 buttonholes evenly spaced on
side edge of front, having first button-hole 1/4 inch from top edge
and last buttonhole at lower corner at leg opening.
Row 2: Sc in each sc to marker, * ch 3, sk 2 sc, sc in each sc to next marker. Repeat from * until 5 buttonholes have been completed, sc in each remaining sc across leg opening and back side edge. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: S1 st in each sc and in each ch of buttonholes across. Fasten off. Work across other side edge to correspond.
Waistband
Row 1: With Wrong side of front piece lacing, join yarn to first ch of starting ch, sc closely across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across, ch 4, turn.
Row 3; Sk first 2 sc, * dc in next sc, ch 1, sk next sc, repeat from * across, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc in first dc, * sc in next sp, sc in ncxt dc. Repeat from * across. ending with sc in third ch of turning ch. Fasten off. Work Waistband across back piece the same way.
Sew buttons to correspond with buttonholes. Cut ribbon in half and lace through beading on each waistband. Tie in bows at sides.
