Brother 941 home knitting machine

Machine knit Christmas stocking

Machine knit Christmas stocking

Hello,

I put my knitting machines away about 15 years ago, following a divorce and a move. And am now trying to get back to them.

I have a Brother 941 and I can't remember how to cast on!! The pits!!! Every time I try, my k-carriage will not go across the bed of needles.

I have tried several different ways, including the "e" wrap, with and without the "bar". But the carriage will not go from right to left. Is it a problem with the carriage??

I have tried different positions of the needles....maybe I have the needles in wrong position, but something is stopping the carriage.

Any help would be appreciated.
Sue

Brother knitting machine parts

Hi Sue,

I understand about putting the machines away for many years and then pulling them out again. And than them not working.

First let me say I have never knitted on a Brother 941 so what I am going to say will apply to most all machines.

When I cast on using the "e" wrap I cast on from left to right. Carriage will be on the right. I hang the bar. Than I move the carriage from right to left and than secure with a couple of weights.

But your problem may be that the machine has sat so long it needs some new stuff and a good cleaning.

When a machine sits that long many things can happen. But first I would check the sponge bar. I am sure that it has deteriorated over the years. You can get a new one here www.theknittingcloset.com I have ordered from them and everything was fine.

Cleaning the machine and removing any dust and than lubricating it is also very important. But first I do believe I would get that sponge bar replaced as it will affect the needles and the carriage movement.

Hopefully some of our readers will have more information on this machine.

Happy Knitting,
Linda
