This cute teddy bear patternis perfect for the new baby and would be just as adorable in blue as it is inpink. I think this would be ideal to add to a baby blanket for a baby showergift. Babies don’t need hard items or toys with parts, this little teddy willbe soft and cuddly.

Also think about thecharities that could use these teddy bears this pattern. The neonatal unitscould put one in each bassinet during the holidays.

Knitted Teddy Bear

Back and Front Alike

First Half Leg

Using 3 mm needles cast on 8sts and work 13 rows in garter st (every row knit).

Break yarn and slip sts ontoa safety pin.

Second Half Leg

Using 3 mm needles cast on 8sts and work 13 rows in garter st.

Body

Next row: Knit across sts onneedle, then knit the 8 sts on safety pin. 16 sts.

Continuing in garter stthroughout work 7 rows straight.

Arms

Cast on 6 sts at beg of next2 rows. 28 sts. Work 6 rows straight. Cast off 8 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 12sts remain.

Head

Work 3 rows straight. Inc 1st at each end of next and following alt row, then every following 4th row untilthere are 20 sts.

Work 2 rows straight. Dec 1st at each end of next 2 rows.

Cast off remaining 16 sts.

Foot Pads (Make 2)

Using 3 mm needles cast on 2sts and knit 1 row. Continuing in garter st inc 1 st at each end of next 2 rows.6 sts.

Work 4 rows straight. Dec 1st at each end of next 2 rows.

Cast off remaining 2 sts.

To Finish

Join back and front togetherleaving feet open. Tie a length of yarn tightly round each corner at top of headfor ears. Stuff firmly. Insert foot pads. Embroider eyes, nose and mouth asillustrated. Tie ribbon round neck and sew firmly in place.
