Hello Friends,

A home based craft business is both exciting and stressful. I always loved being able to work from home and to be there for the family. However, working from home is not without its challenges, it's not always as easy and ideal as it may seem.

You may have visions of bringing your work out to your sunny backyard, feeling a soft gentle breeze stirring, having a cool drink beside you, and lounging on your deck chair as you work up one of your many orders. That sounds pretty cool, but it has never been my experience.

In reality you are more likely to be sitting in a corner of the spare bedroom, (if you are lucky enough to have a spare bedroom) during the kids nap time and trying to figure out how you are going to get all the products ready for the craft show next week. At the same time the sink is full of dishes, the laundry is not folded, you really need to run and get some milk and the dog just ate your last order.

Working from home is a dream of many. We have visions of working in our pjs and filling the many orders in our spare time. Of being able to attend all the school functions and always being there for the kids and hubby, as the orders are pouring in and product is shipping out.

Yes these are all true but it is still a matter of always setting priorities and working twice as hard to keep up. There will be no spare time, because every minute will be filled with family or your home based business.

You will be on your own, you will set the deadlines and you will be responsible for completing every project. You will not have a supervisor to watch over you and if you can't work unsupervised than the game is over before it begins.

Learn to plan, to organize, and to complete. Have a sense of humor and enjoy this adventure. There are many benefits from working at home and yes they do by far out weight the challenges that will arise. Plan as much as you can, and don't stress over the unexpected.

Be professional and yet remember your family is the most important thing in the world.

God Bless

Linda
