This page contains videos that will show you how to do various stitches in hand knitting.
With knitting, placing the first row of stitches on the needle is known as "casting on". This will be your foundation row or beginning row of your knitting pattern. Casting on can be done on one needle or two needles.

Casting On:
1 -Make a slip knot on the needle about two yards from the end of the yarn. (This amount varies according to the number of stitches to be cast on, but always allow plenty)
2 -Holding needle in right hand, loop end of yarn around left thumb and hold it in the left palm.
3 -Insert tip of needle into loop on thumb, pass yarn leading to the ball around needle from back to front, draw yarn through loop.
4 -Slip loop off thumb and tighten stitch just formed on needle.
