Free easy crochet patterns

"Basic granny square pattern"

 

Free easy crochet patterns that are suitable for beginners.  These patterns are beautiful even though they are easy to crochet. Sometimes the skilled crocheter over looks the easy patterns. This is a shame because many time like this the simplicity of the pattern and the colors reveal its beauty.

Granny square afghans

SB719-001 Plush Throw

Throw measures approximately 43" x 60".

RED HEART® "PlushTM": 2 Ounces No. 9823

French Blue CA, 4 ounces No. 9627

Lt. Sage CB, and 25 ounces No. 9103

Cream CC.

Crochet Hook: U.S. Size 6mm [US J-10].

Yarn needle.

GAUGE: Square measures 6." x 6."; 8." across the diagonal.

Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.

SQUARE A  (Make 24)

With CA, ch 4; join with a sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring; join with a sl st to first sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, [yo and draw up alp] 3 times all in first sc, yo and draw yarn through all 7 1ps on hook, ch 3, * [yo and draw up alp] 4 times all in next sc, yo and draw yarn through all 9 1ps on hook, ch 3; rep from * 6 more times; join with a sl st in top of beg puff st – 8 puff sts. Fasten off.

Rnd 3: With right side facing, attach CB in any ch-3 sp; ch 1, 3 sc in sp, * (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next sp **, 3 sc in next sp; rep from * around, end at **; join with a sl st to first sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * sc in each st to corner sp, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) all in sp; rep from * to last 3 dc, sc in last 3 dc; join to first sc. Fasten off.

Rnd 5: With right side facing, attach CC in same st as joining, ch 3, dc in next 2 sc, * hdc in next 3 sc, sc in next 2 sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) all in sp, sc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 3 sc **, dc in next 3 sc; rep from * around, end at **; join to top of ch-3.

Rnd 6: Ch 3, * dc in each st to corner sp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) all in sp; rep from * to last 6 sts; dc in last 6 sts; join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

SQUARE B (Make 31)

Rnds 1 and 2: With CC, work same as Square A EXCEPT DO NOT fasten off at end of Rnd 2.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, * 3 sc in next sp, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next sp; rep from * around; join with a sl st to first sc. Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining, * sc in each st to corner sp, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) all in sp; rep from * to last 3 dc, sc in last 3 dc; join to first sc.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sc, * hdc in next 3 sc, sc in next 2 sc, (sc, ch 2, sc) all in sp, sc in next 2 sc, hdc in next 3 sc **, dc in next 3 sc; rep from * around, end at **; join to top of ch-3.

Rnd 6: Work same as Square A Rnd 6.

FINISHING: Sew squares together following diagram. With right side facing, attach CC in any st; ch 1, work 1 rnd sc evenly around outer edge, inc and dec as necessary to keep work flat; join to first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
