TO FIT A 12" DOLL

MATERIALS Required:

Of LADYSHIP 4 ply CHAMPION or 4 ply RENOWN.

1 oz. main color for trousers and jacket;

I oz. first contrast for beret, scarf and mittens;

1/2 oz. second contrast for bag and trimmings.

1 pair each knitting needles Nos. 10 and 12.

Medium size crochet hook.

5 small press fasteners.

Gold colored embroidery thread.

MEASUREMENTS:

To fit a 12 inch teenage doll.

TENSION.

15 1/2 sts. and 19 rows In a 2 inch square, measured over stocking stitch on No. 10 needles.

ABBREVIATIONS:- K., knit; P., purl; st(s)., stitch(es); dec., decrease by knitting (or purling) 2 sts. together; here, increase by working into front and back of same st.; tog., together; ins., inches; beg., beginning; rep., repeat; rem., remain(ing); alt., alternate; patt, pattern; st. st.. stocking stitch (K. 1 row, P. 1 row); g. st., garter stitch (every row knit).

TROUSERS

Using No. 10 needles, cast on 23 sts. and work 2 rows in g. st.

Beg. with a K. row, work 30 rows in st. st.

In next row—Inc. in first st., K. to last 2 sts., inc. in next st., K. 1.

Continue in st. st., inc. one st. at each end of needle in same manner in every following 4th row until there are 29 sts. on needle.

Work 3 rows in st st. without shaping.

Dec. one st, at each end of needle in next and every following alt row until 19 sts. rem,

Change to No. 12 needles and work 4 rows in g. st.

Cast off

Work a second piece in same manner.

Using No. 10 needles, cast on 22 sts.

1st row—K. 2, *P. 2, K. 2, rep, from * to end.

This row forms the patt.

Rep. first row 21 times more.

Proceed as follows:

1st row—Inc. in first st., K. 1, *P. 2, K. 2, rep. from * to last 4 sts., P. 2, inc. in next st., K, 1.

2nd row—Inc. in first st., *K. 2, P. 2, rep. from * to last 3 sts., K. 1, inc. in next st., K. 1.

Proceed as follows:

1st row—Cast off 16 sts., patt, to end.

2nd row—*K. 2, P. 2, rep. from * to last 2 sts., K. 2 tog.

3rd row—K. 2 tog., P. 1, *K. 2, P. 2, rep. from * to last 2 sts., K. 2.

BERET

Using No. 12 needles, cast on 56 sts. and work 4 rows in g. st.

Change to No. 10 needles.

In next row—*K. 4, inc. in next st., rep. from * to last st., K,1. (67 sts.).

Beg. with a P. row, work 7 rows in st st

Proceed as follows:

1st row—*K. 9, K. 2 tog., rep. from * to last st., K. 1.

2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th rows—Purl.

3rd row—*K. 8, K. 2 tog., rep. from * to last st., K. 1.

5th row--*K. 7, K. 2 tog., rep. from * to last st., K. 1.

7th row—*K. 2, K. 2 tog., rep. from * to last st, K. 1 ,

Break off wool, thread through rem. Sts. draw up and fasten off.

BAG

Using No. 10 needles, cast on 14 sts, and work 48 rows in g. st.

Cast off.

SCARF

Using No. 10 needles, cast on 14 sts. and beg. with a K. row, work 9 ins. in st. st,

Cast off.

MITTENS

Using No. 1 2 needles, cast on 14 sts.

1st row---*K.1, P. 1, rep. from * to end.

Rep. first row 3 times more.

Beg. with a K. row, work 6 rows in st. st.

In next row--*K. 2 tog., rep, from * to end.

Cast off purlwise.

Work another mitten in same manner.

TO MAKE UP

Using a warm iron and a damp cloth, press each piece carefully on wrong side of work.

Trousers;

Sew up leg seams, leaving one inch open at front for opening, sew back and remainder of front seam. Sew press fastener to front opening at waist,

Jacket:

Sew side and sleeve seams, Fold 6 sts. cast on for right front over 6 sts. for left, sew 3 press fasteners evenly spaced to fasten front, Embroider buttons over the press fasteneis to finish off.

Beret:

Sew seam. With contrast wool sew 1/2 inch loops in a cluster at crown to form a pom-pom

Bag:

Fold knitting to form an envelope bag, as illustrated, and sew side seams, Sew press fastener to close flap and with gold colored embroidery thread embroider a clasp over press fastener. Using double wool crochet a chain 6 ins. long. Fasten off. Sew to each side of bag, to form strap.

Scarf;

Fold knitting in half lengthwise, with right side inside, sew seam. Turn knitting on to right side, draw each end up, and with contrast wool sew 1/2 inch loops in a cluster at each end to form a pom-pom.

Mittens:

Sew seam. Crochet a chain 9 ins. long and attach a mitten to each end.
